Their History

Captain Mike, a dedicated fisherman since the tender age of four, founded the Alkion II in early 1993. His childhood spent on his family’s fishing vessel instilled in him a deep passion for the sea. From a young age, he honed his skills in boat handling and net casting. Even today, Captain Mike continues to venture out on the waters, tirelessly catching fresh fish to supply local restaurants. With nearly 25 years of experience as the captain of the Alkion II, he is a seasoned expert of the sea.

The name of his vessel “Alkion” is steeped in mythology. Derived from “Alkionides,” it refers to the halcyon days of calm and brightness amidst winter, bestowed upon kingfishers by the gods to facilitate egg hatching. The mythical bird, often associated with the kingfisher, possesses the legendary ability to soothe waves and winds into tranquillity.
