EDRO III Shipwreck – A Coastal Wonder in Cyprus

The Story Behind the EDRO III Shipwreck

How Did the EDRO III End Up Here?

The EDRO III was a Sierra Leone-flagged cargo ship built in 1966. On 8th October 2011, while en route from Limassol to Rhodes carrying plasterboard, it encountered heavy seas during a storm. As a result, the vessel ran aground on the rocks at Paphos Sea Caves, just meters from the shore.

Despite efforts to salvage the ship, the operation was deemed too risky due to the shallow waters and rugged terrain. Fortunately, all crew members were rescued, and the ship was left abandoned, creating what is now a dramatic and eerie seascape.

Where Is the EDRO III Located?

The shipwreck is located in Peyia, about 10–15 minutes from Coral Bay, and approximately 25–30 minutes from Paphos town. You’ll find it near the famous Sea Caves and close to the Oniro by the Sea café and bar, which offers stunning views of the ship.
