Cape Greco: On the Edge of the National Park
Cape Greco is the wild corner of the east coast: a protected headland of juniper scrub, limestone cliffs and sea caves that separates Protaras from Ayia Napa. The national forest park itself has no hotels and never will, so staying at Cape Greco means a villa in the quiet residential streets on the Protaras side of the park boundary, where the last houses give way to hiking trails and open sea. It is the closest thing this coast has to countryside by the water.
What the Headland Offers
Mornings here start with a walk rather than a sun lounger queue. The park's trail network runs from the villa streets out to the sea caves, the natural rock arch and the lighthouse point, with the little blue and white chapel of Ayioi Anargyroi perched above a swimming spot locals guard jealously. Divers rate the water off the cape as the best on the island, cyclists loop the gravel tracks before the heat, and at night the absence of resort lighting makes this one of the few places on the coast where the stars actually perform. Who It Suits
Guests who want privacy and space over pace: couples, walkers, and families with older children who would rather explore caves than queue for pedalos. You will want a car, because the reward of the location is distance from the crowds, and that same distance applies to supermarkets, which sit a few minutes' drive towards the Protaras strip. For a beach on your doorstep instead, look at neighbouring Konnos Bay, the cove at the northern gate of the park, or the family coves of Pernera further up the coast.
